For many people, food is simply a source of nourishment. A way to power the body and mind in order to get through the day in the best way possible. However, there's so much joy food can bring. It can unlock sensations, tastes, smells, and experiences unlike anything else. Turning mealtimes from a dull paint-by-numbers to an exciting experience all depends on the right approach.

Start looking to make the cooking and dining process one that is fun and enjoyable again. There's such a hugely diverse range of food available these days that being able to enjoy delicious meals and snacks can really enhance the experience. If you've stopped loving the joy of food, the experience of eating, and all the things in between, here are some tips to help you fall in love with food - again, or for the first time.  



Try one new dish every single week

Try to come up with ways of making your mealtimes more interesting. Create variety and diversity in your meals. It's important to find ways to sample new things and enjoy fresh experiences. So try to sample something new each week, as a way of understanding how amazingly diverse food can be, no matter what the mealtime is. Trying out things like a crescent roll taco bake can make a major difference to your culinary experiences, and will allow you to enjoy new things and get a taste of some of the different types of dishes out there.



Have meat-free days

Another excellent step to take is to enjoy meat-free days as this is a great way to mix things up, and there are plenty of delicious meat-free dishes out there too! Try to introduce one meat-free day per week into your meal plans for a bit of a change, as well as embracing a greener way of life. There are great benefits of having more fish and seafood in your diet, as well as trying to enjoy plant-based dishes where possible too.



Change up your snacking

Snacking is a big part of the food experience, and is the way we fill-up in between meals. There are a lot of options to think about when wanting to snack, and keeping things fresh is really important. Luckily, there are a lot of choices to make that will allow you to have fresh, interesting, and enjoyable snack times. Valentine's Day is coming up quickly, and everything's always crowded on V-day. Even in the past, A and I haven't been particularly invested in going on on Valentine's because it's all just so crowded. Don't get me wrong, I love, love, LOVE Valentine's Day, but we typically go in a different direction. So whether you're celebrating Valentine's with significant other, a best friend, or someone else, here are a few tips for planning a lovely dinner for two.



Plan ahead

One of the most important things to remember when cooking for two is to plan. Make a list of what you need, and make sure to get everything at least a day in advance. This will help avoid any stressful moments while preparing your feast.



Divide and conquer

Cutting recipes in half might be the most common way to make dinner for two, but there are other ways to split up your workload. For example, you can also cook side-by-side or prepare multiple dishes at once. When you divide tasks between two people, cooking becomes more enjoyable because it doesn't feel like a chore.

Having a second person in the kitchen is also helpful when cooking multiple dishes. For example, if one requires more attention, your partner can take over while you focus on another dish.



Don't make too much meat

Turkey is such a delicious holiday meal, but we only ever really have it during Thanksgiving or Christmas. Why not try it for Valentine's Day, too? Slow cooker turkey breast is a great way to ensure you don't overdo it on the prep work. This slow cooker recipe will give you all of those fantastic flavors without having to fuss about making side dishes from scratch.



Don't forget the sides

When planning your romantic, love-filled feast for two, don't forget to prepare some side dishes! This can be anything from mashed potatoes to macaroni and cheese, a salad to some new trendy side dish you've been wanting to try out. Be sure to have at least two or three different side dishes to choose from.



Pick dishes that can be made or prepped ahead of time

Even though cooking together can be a romantic task in and of itself, don't make the entire day all about cooking. Instead, pick dishes that can be made or prepped ahead of time and set them aside until you are ready to heat them for dinner. This is a great way to save yourself from hours of kitchen work on the big day, but it also doesn't require any last-minute grocery shopping trips!



Consider buying your desert instead of making it

If you don't have a lot of time to spend in the kitchen, consider buying your dessert instead of making it if you're not that into cooking. There are plenty of themed desserts out there at basically any grocery store that would be perfect for your holiday meal. Another option is to order a dessert from your favorite restaurant. But, again, just make sure you do it in advance so that there's enough time for them to prepare it.
