I started reading Hunting Unicorns several years ago and never got past the first chapter. The second time around, I was able to get through the novel pretty quickly. The novel is told from the viewpoints of two characters- Maggie and Daniel- but follows two main characters- Maggie and Daniel's brother Rory.
Maggie is an American reporter sent to England to report on the decline of the British aristocracy. Rory is the foot in the door Maggie needs. The story is light-hearted, funny, and romantic. Like I mentioned before, it was a quick read. I thought both of the characters were fairly likeable, though I found myself leaning more towards Rory. (Somehow the girls in stories tend to do things that slightly annoy me.)
This book was the chick flick of books, and I could definitely see the movie play out in my head as I read through the pages.
Surprisingly, the book is an international award winner. I am only surprised because the book was such a simple read, and I tend to think of award winning novels as more difficult. It also received praise from Christiane Amanpour, which will be a familiar name to you if you ever watched Gilmore Girls (she's Rory's role model/hero), or if you're into CNN.

Have you read this novel? What are some of your favorite "chick flick" novels?

  1. I haven't heard of this book, but I'm afraid it might not be my kind of book. I try to stay away from chick flick novels, just because I tend to get bored with them. The one "chick flick" book that comes to mind is The Vacationers since there was a bit of drama in it.

    1. I enjoy them because they're so quick to read, so I can move through them very quickly, especially when I have a lot of other stuff going on. And I have heard of The Vacationers, but I will look into it! Thanks!
