About a month ago, I realized Evil Dead the Musical existed. Hours later, I discovered the theatre department at the university I work at was doing a production of it. Obviously I made a very important decision very impulsively - I had to go see it!

Hubby and I went to a Sunday showing, which happened to be the final showing. There were lots of high notes, and maybe some that were not so high, but overall we had a really good time and enjoyed the show.

First off: If you ever attend a performance of Evil Dead the Musical, please note that the first few rows are the "splatter zone," which means you will likely get splattered with fake blood. We had seats in the fourth row, but by intermission we chickened out and ended up hiking up to some empty seats closer to the back.

Something else to expect? The corny. The show is highly corny. So very goofy. But it's meant to be! The schematics are not meant to be realistic, and the special effects aren't quiet so special, if you get my drift. I loved that about it.

There is a lot of vulgar language, which I'm fine with, but honestly one of the character's uses bad language so incessantly, it stopped being funny very quickly. He was my least favorite part of the show - spoiler alert: I was happy when he died.

The songs were really fun and goofy, though the dancing was often off-beat and not at all harmonic. At times that performance seemed a bit childish and not well put together, however I'm not totally sure that it wasn't supposed to seem that way. I'm still unsure, if I'm being totally honest.

The finale was totally unexpected - I'll say the set moved to showcase something totally bizarre, but possibly the best part of the entire show.

Overall, the show was incredibly enjoyable and so much fun. Plus, it was a perfect theatre trip for mid-October. I'd highly recommend Evil Dead the Musical if you love the Evil Dead movies (and Ash vs. Evil Dead) or if you love super corny not-quite-horror and zombie gore.
