Alright, y'all. You may remember me posting this picture a few weeks back saying that big things were to come, and that I would hopefully have more news soon. Well, the news is here and I'm ready to share it.
I GOT INTO GRAD SCHOOL! That's right, your girl is on her way to getting her Master's.
I graduated with a Bachelor's of Science in Mass Communications back in 2012. I immediately started working as an Assistant Store Manager for a small girl's boutique, and within three months, I had my own store. The bad news? I had no passion for retail and my job had me crossing state lines and time zones five days a week. I was miserable.
I spent two years applying for every higher ed position within an hour or two of my house. I was offered a position with a major pay cut and turned it down.
Finally, in November 2014, I landed a job at my alma mater, 15 minutes from home. I couldn't have been more pleased. (That's my current position.) After starting, I learned that the university system that I work for offers free tuition (with some stipulations) to full-time benefited employees after six months of employment. I knew it was finally my chance to earn my Master's, and virtually for free!
I took my GRE, and after several tear-soaked study sessions and sobbing, I was able to earn the scores I needed for my first-choice program. I also had two backups. After submitting an application, GRE scores, a personal statement, a resume, and two shining recommendations, I was able to interview for the program.
I found out that I got into the program while my daddy was in surgery, but while it was amazing news to receive, I was waiting to hear even better news, so it wasn't my top priority. Now, my dad's back at home and recovering, so I felt like I could spill the beans.
I'll begin working on my Master's of Education in Counseling with a focus on College Student Affairs in the Fall, with a tentative graduation date of Spring 2018. I am so incredibly nervous, and also excited to begin this program.
Thank you for sharing in this awesome news with me.
