As per usual, I wasn't sure what to expect when I picked up As Red As Blood by Salla Simukka. I've only ever read a handful of things that were translated to English from another language, so I was a little trepidatious about this one, because my last experience reading a translated book wasn't fabulous.

So anyways, As Red As Blood follows 17 year old Lumikki, who stumbles across an insane amount of blood-covered money in the dark room at her private school. This leads her to getting wound up in a situation she doesn't want to be in, but feels obligated to help with.

I don't know how to tell you much more about the story without spoiling it, but I would definitely say it's worth reading. It's the first in a trilogy, so it leaves just enough questions unanswered at the end to make you want to dive in further and read more.

I will definitely be picking up the next two in the series.

To classify this book, I would say it's a YA thriller/crime novel. Honestly, the translation did not effect the story at all. I really enjoyed this book, and would recommend it.

Have you read any books that were not originally written in English? What were your thoughts?
