The Roanoke Girls by Amy Engel*: This novel is absolutely amazing. It has to be one of my favorite books I've ever read. Bone-chilling and beautifully written, the story follows Lane and her family of Roanokes. Something just isn't right in Roanoke, and what it is will truly disturb you! (full review here) Goodreads rating: 5 out of 5

The Breakdown by B.A. Paris*: Ever since reading Behind Closed Doors, I have been obsessed with B.A. Paris' writing. I was pumped to read The Breakdown, which is about a woman who, after a new friend is murdered near her home, is experiencing delusions and bouts of forgetfulness - or is she? (full review here) Goodreads rating: 4 out of 5

Pull Me Under by Kelly Luce: This novel follows a Japanese-American woman, Rio, who moved to America after stabbing a classmate as a child. After her father dies, she goes back to Japan for his funeral and has to face what scares her the most - her past. (full review here) Goodreads rating: 3 out of 5

I Know What I'm Doing and Other Lies I Tell Myself: Dispatches from a Life Under Construction by Jen Kirkman*: This essay-style comedy memoir discusses life after divorce and how it's okay to just be single. (full review here) Goodreads rating: 2 out of 5

The Owl Always Hunts at Night by Samuel Bjork*: This is the second novel in a Norwegian crime thriller series, but works fine as a standalone (I didn't even know it was part of a series until after I added it on Goodreads). The novel is chilling, full of dysfunction, and you won't be able to put it down. (full review here) Goodreads rating: 4 out of 5

  1. The Roanoke Girls was SO good. I just finished Behind Closed Doors and it was a good read, so I might check out her other book.

    1. Yes! I loved the Roanoke Girls. I think you'll like B.A. Paris's new novel too. It's not as good as Behind Closed Doors, but still good. :)
