These days it feels like everyone is looking to write a book. Everyone at the very least has an idea, and may long to tell a story. However, the fact of the matter is that actually sitting down and writing (and finishing) your book are not the same thing. This is why it is important to have ideas and tips that will help you when it comes to improving your chances of success.

Writing your first book is no mean feat, and you have to be able to put yourself in the chair to actually write words. You also need no shortage of drive and inspiration, and this is something that you have to make sure you focus on as much as possible. Writing a novel is a wonderful pastime that could turn into a successful career, so here are some of the key tips for writing your first book.

What type of book are you writing

Understanding the type of book you are writing before you start is important, as this can help you approach the project with more clarity. So, you need to think about the type of book you want to write, as well as looking at what you can do to choose the right kind of genre as well. Are you writing a children's book? YA? Romance? A thriller? Think about your options and know your plan before you really start writing. Make an outline, so you have some kind of structure to follow.

Make sure you read heaps

Making sure you come up with a more immersive reading regime is one of the best ways of being able to improve your life and help you when it comes to improving your chances of writing a great book. Writers need to read, and this is why it is so important to ensure you have a strong reading list that you work on as much as possible. Reading a lot is a great way of being able to improve your knowledge and experience of stories, as well as how you can write a book.

Be true to your story

Being true to your story is so important, and this is one of the best things that you can do to help you write something strong and well structured. There will be multiple ideas and pieces of advice coming from all over, but it is important that you make sure you are focused on what works for you and try to stick to the story you want to tell.

I've been working on writing a book for literal years, and it's hard to do. Everyone has their own style and methods, so it's important to figure out what works best you.
