For folks looking to visit Oklahoma for the very first time, we’ve got some tips and ideas for how to make the most of your time there. There are so many things to see and do, and it’s such an underrated state, not to mention Oklahoma City being a very underrated city. If you haven’t visited OKC before, you’re definitely missing out. Here’s how to spend your time there.

Relax in Scissortail Park

Scissortail Park is a fantastic outdoor space, and sometimes when traveling to a new location, you need time to relax and enjoy nature in between the days when you’re exploring the city. The park is 40 acres and regularly holds cultural events and performances. But during the day, it’s a quiet open space to enjoy the greenery and stroll through at leisure. It’s not to be missed.

See the National Memorial and Museum

If you want to find out more about the history of Oklahoma and how it’s developed through the decades and centuries, heading to the Oklahoma City National Memorial and Museum is a must. It recently had a multi-million dollar renovation carried out and now boasts a range of state of the art attractions and exhibits to explore. It’s a truly fantastic modern museum.

Maybe you’re more interested in the artistic side of Oklahoma. If so, you should certainly head to the Oklahoma City Museum of Art. It’s a fantastic gallery displaying a wide array of pieces, with a particular focus on glass art. The work of Dale Chihuly is displayed here and his glass pieces are truly beautiful. Exploring the collection is a great way to spend an afternoon.

Be Sure to Visit the Steak Houses

One of the best things about Oklahoma is the food. There’s so much to sample and for someone who loves comfort food, expect to be surrounded by the best of comforts. To experience the best Oklahoma has to offer in terms of dining, visitors definitely need to explore the many and varied Oklahoma steak houses that can be found dotted across the state. 

Visit Oklahoma City Zoo

Oklahoma City Zoo is a vast and sprawling attraction with a lot going for it. Whether traveling with the whole family or not, there’s lots to see here. The Sanctuary Asia part of the zoo is the main attraction with a vast enclosure for their elephants and habitats for rhinos, red pandas, and lots of other Asian species too. It's not to be missed.

There are plenty of great things to see and do while in Oklahoma. Of course, the main place to spend time is in Oklahoma City, but there are great places to explore elsewhere in the state to explore, so visitors won’t find themselves short of options.
